I've been having a few issues with my Topfield 7260 lately, such as occasional repeated frames, and decided to try jdaSignalMonitor to check my signal strength and quality levels.
For all channels, signal strength is 89. My understanding is that anything in the 60-90 range is fine. (Sort of surprise how consist this value was though.)
With signal quality, values vary quite a bit. Sometime the lowest value is high (98), other times it can be around 87-92, and even occasionally 0.
For signal quality, what is required to decoded signals without errors? Are my signal levels normal? If not, what can I do to improve them?
Can anyone tell me if the above DVD recorder is Region Free?
Also is the LG V782W Region Free?
Hi all, looking at a dmrbwt945 as a straight blu ray player for my blus and 3d blus to tide me over until the lg up970 arrives later this year(have 4k lg uh950 with DV). I can pick up one of the Panasonics mentioned extremely cheap. Does anyone here know if they play blu rays or upscale dvd's almost as good as better blu ray players(like oppo or yammy adventage units)? I wont be recording anything on it as there is nothing on fta I want to see, so if no better than a standard blu ray player I will just pick up a cheapie
thanks for any info you can provide
My mum's Homecast HT8000PVR has kicked the bucket (won't turn on), but the HDD seems to still be in good shape and she would like to keep the programs recorded on it.
I opened it up, took the HDD out and plugged it in to my computer. The drive is detected by the computer and doesn't make any weird noises, but the file system seems to be unsupported. Both Linux and Windows have no idea what it is.
I remember back in the day you had to use a weird app to transfer files between the PVR and a computer, but the PVR itself is dead and won't turn on.
Anyone have a clue as to how I can copy the data off the internal HDD of the Homecast HT8000PVR in Windows or Linux?
Is there anyone who can advise me please. I am thinking of up grading my old PVR to Fetch tv mighty. I have 3 questions. My televisions HDMI plug is loose and not working and Fetch does not have composite leads, just HDMI. I have seen in Jaycar a device to convert HDMI to composite so I can view it with those 3 couloured leads. However in my experience Jaycar sells mostly rubbish. Has any one used one of these convertors and do they work? The cost $85 so I want to make sure that it works.
Also if I upgrade to a new "Smart" tv can I use Fetch with it as they are both Internet connected. The feature I want on Fetch is the optional BBC channels which I dont think you can get on a smart tv. Or should I buy a basic tv without "smart" feature.
Thirdly if the Internet goes down which has happened can I use Fetch just as a normal PVR as I understand the programme guide is obtained through the Internet and not from the ariel.
If anyone has any other pros and cons about Fetch tv any information will be welcome.Thank you.
Looking for anyone that might know about the old Homecast HT8000 PVR?

the site i found online doesnt have this particular model in its line up?
Cheers andrew
Hi all,
I’ve had my 4Tune for a few months now after my Topfield 2400 Masterpiece went to PVR Heaven (or Hell depending on your view). The only other device I considered was the Fetch TV Mighty but I went with the 4Tune primarily because of the ad skipping ability.
What’s good
What’s not so good
Do I recommend it? Yes, I think it's a reasonable replacement to the Toppy especially if ad skipping appeals. 7 out of 10.
Just got hold of a Sony Recorder SVR-HD700. Doesn't want to show HD channels, just does the audio, no video. Anyone know if they can be upgraded / modified to show MPEG4?
Hi everyone. Although I seldom post here I always read the site everyday. Always very informative.
I wonder if anyone has any suggestions about this.
My Digitalview DVR 810 which has served me faithfully for many years is developing problems. When playing back sometimes it jumps forward 10 minutes or so and when I rewind back to play again it jumps back to the same spot. Also sometimes the sound doesnt sinc until I press play a second time. This seems to have started recently since recording ABC HD and SBS HD in MPEG4. Maybe its just a coincidence and the hard drive is dying.
Im now looking at buying a new PVR. After searcing info Im interested in the HUMAX 7510T 0r 7500T. I cant find anywhere the difference between these models. I only need basic functions as recording and playback FTA tv. Mainly ABCHD and SBSHD. The most important thing is reliability of recording.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Won a bid on an item Xmas Day.

Commented on e-bay about them accordingly. They then commented negatively about me!!!!

I have a Panasonic Viera plasma and i have tried all the codes under Panasonic in the manual but i couldn't get any of them to work. I was hoping someone would have a working code.
We have a Panasonic TV (TH-L42U20A), A Panasonic Blu-ray Home Theatre Sound System (SC-BT230) and a Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMR-XW440) It all works fine but what is really annoying is that the sound becomes delayed from the vision until it is so out sync (maybe 1/2 second at a guess) that we have to turn off the sound system and restart it to get everything lined up again. Since all three machines are Panasonic I would have thought that they would be compatible, but obviously there is a problem. Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have a solution to get the sound to stay in sync without interupting a programme?
Thanks,
Hi all we came home after being away for about 10 days and found the above unit to be displaying ;loading v101. remote not working, batteries ok, checked all leads etc and nothing seemed to work. Finally switched the unit off at the rear and this got rid of the display turned it back on then nothing. Now can,t turn it on at all, read some where trying to find a solution and one chap suggested what he had done was to clean with a vacumn and replCED cap not sure what cap is or where it is located. I have not removed the back as it is sealed.
Can anyone suggest what can be done or should it be binned????
Has anyone bought one of these pvr's. My tv only has scart inputs and by reading the info on this unit it only outputs to hdmi. Do I need to get a hdmi to scart adapter or is there another way to get it to work???
Recently all my HD receiver channels have disappeared on my Panasonic DMR-BW500 Blu-ray recorder all other SD appear OK presume HD receiver portion of tuner has died retunining hasn't fixed it had anyone have similar problem?
The remote control for my Panasonic Bluray recorder DMR-BW500 has exhibited PLAY and STOP button loss of function, noted after infrequent use of remote, remaining buttons seem to be OK, warming remote and constant pressing does not return function, anyone had similar issue and had to replace remote?
Will work for a while and then just freezes. Have not used it for a while but since I received the email from dtv I thought I would post here. Just plugged it back in and its working.......now it may be heat issues as previous probs was in summer but as this is winter and I dont have heating it may work. Any clues to what the problem may be ?
Basically just plug a portable usb drive into my TV ( TV is in bedroom ) if I need to record but it has a lot of limitations.
Anyway...g'day to all and my old Topfield in my lounge room still works perfectly :-)
Hi All,
I have a "Strong SRT-4663X" satellite receiver which I use to watch shows from the Optus D2 satellite.
I also watch free to air tv via the usual RF cable.
I would like to record shows from both the satellite and free to air but have wasted 4 hours searching the net for a sure solution that I can't seem to find.
Originally, I thought I could just buy a PVR with 500GB storage from one of the big shops but it turns out it's not that simple.
Preferably, I don't want to spend over $300 but could stretch if no other option.
Don't need bells & whistles, just ability to record footy from FTA and a few kids shows from satellite.
I'm all ears.
Extra info: The sat box I have is supposed to be able to record to usb but it doesn't work so I'm weary of "PVR Ready" devices. Meaning, I'd prefer built in storage.

Currently considering wall mounting our 64 inch Samsung plasma TV it is on a stud wall, the Samsung manual calls up M8 screws for the TV to mount arms does anyone know the screw length and the info states that the screw alongside the mount hole is to be removed first?
Has anyone done this with the Crest BFP6T TV Tilt mount from Bunnings?
